"Everybody knows the Prime Minister is 100 per cent above board. It is shameful that the person of the Prime Minister's integrity is being targeted," she said in one of her rare interactions with the media on Wednesday.

Gandhi recalled how the BJP had to pay a heavy price for trying to "destroy Singh's image in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. "You all remember how they attacked him during the campaign and what was the result. They lost. The Prime Minister won. That should be a lesson for the opposition," she said.

She attacked the BJP for insisting on a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the 2G spectrum scandal that continues to paralyse Parliament and contrasted the Congress and BJP's responses to corruption. While her party removed Natwar Singh, Shashi Tharoor and Ashok Chavan (whose resignation was decided but implemented as soon as US president Barack Obama left), the BJP failed to act against Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.
