Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said a proposal in this regard will be tabled in the Cabinet meeting soon.

A meeting to discuss this was held on Monday between Bhure Lal, chairman of Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA), Sunita Narain, director of Centre for Science and Environment, Delhi government chief secretary PK Tripathi and officials from the environment department.

"It was suggested that the government must crack down on gross polluting vehicles. The transport department and Delhi Police might be instructed to take action against grossly polluting vehicles and impose a fine of R2,000 on the spot," said a senior Delhi government official.

"It was also suggested that stringent action, including fine, may be charged during the

next three months," added the official.

"All commercial vehicles entering the city will be checked and those not bound to Delhi will not be allowed to enter," said a senior Delhi government official.
