The South Delhi Police have arrested a couple on Saturday for duping people through a ‘marriage racket’. The police have also recovered Rs 3.5 lakh worth gold jewellery from Ashok Singh (27) and his second wife Suman (22).

Police said Singh would pose as a person from an affluent farming family but whose father was murdered and the land mortgaged. The duo allegedly posed as siblings and tried to lure elderly bachelors into their trap.
Police said Singh, who was arrested from Badarpur with his wife, would get people to marry his wife but by presenting her as his sister.
“He would show that some of his land was encroached upon by his enemies and he is unable to arrange his sister’s marriage. The duo obtained huge amount from elderly bachelors, who intended to marry Suman. On the pretext to meet the wedding expenses, they took huge amounts of cash from their victims,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal.
“After the wedding, the accused would poison their victim and escape with valuables.”
