A 24-year-old law DU student was allegedly stabbed in his eye by unknown assailants while he on his way to his hostel in Mukherjee Nagar on Monday.

Despite bleeding profusely for two hours however, the victim was denied medical treatment at a prominent north Delhi hospital as a police case was yet to have been registered. “The victim has been identified as Mayank Mani Tripathi. He was on his way to his hostel when a few men stabbed him in the eye at 8:45 pm,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
According to the victim’s friend Vipul, also a law faculty student, “We rushed to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital where the doctor on call denied treatment saying a case had to be registered first. We called the police. A police van arrived nearly two hours later,” said another friend of Mayank.
Tripathi was treated at the Guru Nanak Eye Centre in central Delhi. Doctors said he was likely to lose vision in his left eye. Police denied that any such incident had occurred.
