Students block traffic for hours to protest death

A day after their 21-year-old batch mate succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a speeding vehicle, hundreds of students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth shouted anti-Delhi Police slogans and blocked traffic for hours on south Delhi’s Jeet Singh Marg on Monday morning.

A day after their 21-year-old batch mate succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a speeding vehicle, hundreds of students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth shouted anti-Delhi Police slogans and blocked traffic for hours on south Delhi’s Jeet Singh Marg on Monday morning.

“The students were demanding measures to check the speed of vehicles plying on the Jeet Singh Marg where their college is located. One of their batch mates had met with an accident while crossing the stretch on August 13,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Police identified the victim as Nilesh Choudhary, a second-year B.A Sanskrit (Hons.) student at the deemed university. “According to students, who saw the incident, Choudhary was crossing the road and way on his way to a roadside eatery when a Skoda car ran him over and fled the scene at noon on Friday,” the officer said.

Hailing from Bihar, Choudhary used to stay at a rented accommodation in Katwaria Sarai area.

“His friends rushed him to a private nursing home from where he was referred to the Max Hospital in Vasant Kunj. He was discharged from there after being administered normal first aid,” said the officer.
