A student failing to meet the average 66.67% attendance across semester one and two will be detained in the second semester.

“If a student does not have 40% attendance in the first semester, he/she will be detained in the first semester itself. If the students’ attendance is between 40 % – 66.67%, then the colleges will look at the medical certificates, ECAs and the sports quota attendances. Even after that, if the attendance is below 66.67 %, it is up to the college to decide what they want to do with the student,” said JM Khurana, dean of students’ welfare, DU.

Most colleges, however, are making students sign an undertaking if their attendance is between 40% – 66.67%. This undertaking requires the students to cover up the lost attendance in the second semester. An average of both the first and second semester attendance will be calculated. Thereafter too, if it is less than 66.67%, the student will be detained.

“We have been very particular about attendance. We had told the students in all formal orientations that they would be required to complete 75% attendance,” said Kanika Khandelwal, media coordinator, Lady Sri Ram College.
