Students escape death on e-way

Barely four days after a 19-year old boy lost his life in a car accident on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, five Class XII boys had a close brush with death when their Mahindra Scorpio rammed into cement bollards and toppled over a number of times on Thursday.

The driver lost his balance when a stationary crane moved all of a sudden. All the five students aged 17-18 and the driver suffered injuries. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital in DLF City.

Later one of the students and the driver were moved to a hospital in Delhi. All the teens are students of Mayo College, Ajmer, and were on a leisure trip to Ambience Mall in Gurgaon.

Officials of DSC Limited claimed that the scorpio rammed into the bollards after one of the tyres of the vehicle burst. The accident took place on the service lane near Atlas Chowk of the Expressway.

“As our car reached near an under-construction foot over bridge, the driver noticed an abrupt movement of a crane from the left hand side and it quickly turned right to save the vehicle from ramming into it and hit the cement bollards. But what happened afterwards I do not know, as it was very scary. When I regained my consciousness, I found myself in a badly damaged Scorpio,” said Aditya, who was bleeding from his nose.

Karan’s father Kapil Kumar said his son had a deep cut on his back and he received four stitches on the wound.

“All the boys had set off in the Scorpio in the morning from Delhi. I am still to find out how it happened but I am happy that all the boys are safe,” he added.

Doctors said the driver had suffered a number of fractures on his body.
