Study short-term at art univ, get global recognition

The institute, located inside the premises of National Museum of India, Janpath, is currently accepting application for its short term courses in India: Art & Culture, Art Appreciation and Bhartiya Kalanidhi (conducted in Hindi).

Each of the courses is of five-months duration and includes 75 seats each.

“An advantage of studying such courses at the National Museum is that the students get to visualise whatever they study,” said Krishna Kant Kulshreshtha, registrar, NMIHACM.

Though classes are held once a week, educational tours are organised around Delhi on Sundays.

The courses cover a wide range of topics from the Art of the Indus Valley, Folk & Tribal Art and Modern Western Art.

These courses are highly in demand.

“Each year, we get over 700 applications for only 75 seats,” said Kulshreshtha.

“As we do not conduct any entrance examinations, we ask interested candidates to submit a resume and a 250-word statement of purpose on why they wish to pursue the course, on the basis of which we shortlist candidates.”

For the Masters courses, admissions are conducted through an entrance examination.

“The entrance exam for History of Art asks general knowledge questions which a person interested in art would be able to answer, such as ‘Where is Fatehpur Sikri located?’

“The entrance for Museology will involve questions on the purpose of museums and museum management. To study Conservation, however, a student needs to have a science background, and questions would include on the conservation and preservation of monuments,” Kulshreshtha said.
