The crime branch of the Delhi Police on Monday registered a case of spreading enmity between communities against Subramanian Swamy, president, Janata Party. He had made some objectionable remarks in a national daily.
The case has been registered under section 153A (spreading enmity between communities) of Indian Penal Code.
Swamy had written a news article — which was published in July this year — pertaining to remarks suggesting revoking of voting rights of Muslims.
A senior lawyer, RK Anand, had filed a complaint against Swamy in this regard. “We took legal opinion and then decided to register a case against him under various sections of IPC,” said a senior police officer.
Ashok Chand, DCP (Crime), confirmed the development but refused to divulge any further details saying that investigations were on in the matter.
The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) had, in August, decided to file a case against Swamy for his remarks in the article.
