Sudha Yadav files nomination, hopes to repeat 1999 success

“I chose April 13 because this number has proved to be auspicious for the BJP in the past. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was formed on October 13 in 1999 for the 13th Lok Sabha.

April 13 is also auspicious as Baisakhi is also celebrated on this day,” said Yadav who had in 1999 won from Mahendergarh Parliamentary constituency, defeating Congress candidate Rao Inderjit Singh (59).

The Congress candidate and sitting MP and minister of state for Defence Supplies, Rao Inderjit Singh filed his nomination on April 11. He is the son of former union minister Rao Birender Singh. Independent candidate Kusheshwar Bhagat has also filed his nomination.

Sudha Yadav is contesting her fourth election since 1999 when she won on a BJP ticket riding the sympathy wave after the her husband’s death in Kargil War.

In 2004 and 2005, she contested the Parliamentary and Assembly elections, respectively, but lost. Yadav, who is a PhD from Roorkee University, is the only woman candidate contesting elections for this seat since 1999.
