Summer break extended

With the heat wave showing no signs of letting up, the state government on Thursday took a call to extend the summer vacation in all its schools by one week.

Government schools scheduled to re-open on July 1 will now start classes a week later, that is, July 8.

Private institutions are also expected to fall in line as the education department issued similar directives for the same.

“We don’t want the students to suffer and have taken this step to protect them from the harsh weather conditions,” said Chandra Bhushan Kumar, director, education.

Unaided schools, however, are yet to decide on how and when to implement the orders, which are in tune with the announcement made by Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely at Delhi Assembly on Thursday.

“I haven’t come across the circular yet, but if there is a decision made to this effect then we will definitely follow the orders,” said SL Jain, chairperson, National Progressive Schools Conference, an umbrella body of 100 private schools in the Capital.
