According to a release of the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi (Safdarjung) recorded 33.8°C on March 9, which was about 6°C above normal for this time of the year.

Similarly, the minimum temperature of 16.9°C recorded at Safdarjung on March 11 was 3°C higher than normal. The trend of higher day and night temperatures over Delhi and adjoining regions has been observed since March 4, the release said.

This pattern is likely to change as rain and thunderstorms are expected over Delhi and adjoining regions on March 14. The rain may bring down the maximum temperature by about 2°C. Even after that, the day temperatures will remain 1-2°C above normal during March 15-17.

Prior to rainfall on March 14, the maximum temperature over Delhi will remain 2-4°C above normal till March 13. The minimum temperature after the rainfall on March 14 will be close to normal till March 17.

However, the intensity of rain during this spell will be less compared to the rain in the month of February.
