Summit security makes traffic crawl

As the heads of BRICS nations landed in the Capital for a summit, traffic in the city moved at a snail's pace as major routes in New Delhi area were blocked for VVIP movement.

The restrictions were imposed in view of the increased movement of dignitaries, including the heads of state of Brazil, China, Russia and South Africa. What added to the traffic woes was protest by Sikh organizations demanding clemency for an alleged Sikh terrorist. Protests by Tibetan activists also made situation difficult for commuters. The Sikh rally held up traffic from the entire BRT stretch till the Lajpat Nagar flyover.

"Usually, it takes 35 minutes to reach ITO from GK. On Wednesday afternoon, it took me 90 minutes as the road was blocked for the movement of Chinese President," said Sohinie Mukherjee, who lives in Greater Kailash II.
