A day after home minister P Chidambaram said discussions with regard to the suitability of PJ Thomas for the post of CVC had indeed taken place with Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj during the consultation process, Swaraj said she had decided not to file an affidavit before the Supreme Court after the home minister had borne out her point.

She had announced she would file an affidavit after the attorney general told the Supreme Court the full facts of the case against Thomas were not brought before the selection panel.
Swaraj, however, added thateven while she said she wouldn't file an affidavit now, she disagreed with Chidambaram's claim that the decision to appoint Thomas was taken only after detailed discussions on the Palmolein case against him.
Rather, Swaraj said in a release, Chidambaram had shot down her point that prosecution was pending against him, saying Thomas had already been acquitted. "I asked him to take 24 hours to clarify, because my sources said he had not been acquitted. The PM and the home minister refused to accept my request," she told reporters.
"I then said to take the argument forward that even if he had been acquitted, could he be considered an officer of impeccable integrity. The long discussion he has talked about was on whether an officer who had faced corruption charges should be appointed to the top vigilance post even if cleared of the charges."
