Delhi government's health department on Friday sent an eight-year-old girl's stool sample for testing under Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance.
The surveillance is maintained to track cases of polio, and test monitor people who show symptoms of polio such as weakness in the limbs.
"The girl, who was admitted at New Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital five days ago, had weakness in one leg and the sample was sent for stool culture as a routine exercise," said a senior official from the department of health, Delhi government.
The girl's sample has been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease, and the report is expected after two weeks.
A similar case of a 40-year-old man with paralysis was reported three weeks ago but he tested negative for polio five days ago.
