The Taiwanese film I Can’t Live Without You won the Golden Peacock, which carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 40 lakh at the 40th edition of the International Film Festival (IFFI) at Goa on Thursday.
Directed by Leon Dai, well-known actor and director in Taiwan, the film is based on real life characters and incidents and captures the tender and intense relationship between a father and a daughter and the energy required to survive in the contemporary world.
This is the second time in three years a film from Taiwan has won the prize.
In a sign that children make the best material for cinematic storytelling, the two awards---the Silver Peacock and the Special Jury Award-- went to films that had them as their central theme.
The five member jury, was chaired by Brazil’s Joao Batista de Andrade and included India’s Sarika of Parzania fame, decided to give the silver peacock to the South Korean-French film A Brand New Life.
