Alleging duty evasion against Baba Ramdev, the service tax department had issued a notice of Rs 94 crore against the income generated from yoga camps conducted across India during the last five years.

“We’ve received the notice of Rs 4.94 crore ... but we don’t fall under the ambit of service tax, as we’re not earning commercial profit out of yoga camps,” Ramdev’s spokesperson SK Tijarawala told HT.

Citing a proposal passed by the Parliament in 2010, he said yoga has been excluded from the list of services, such as massage and spa, as yoga is considered a therapy.
