Vivek Srivastava, who works at a software company in Gurgaon, was in Nehru Place to attend a SAP accounting class. He, however, did not return from there. The police said Srivastava’s cell phone had been switched off since his number was used to receive a call and make another.

Sources, however, said the locations of the two calls which were made to Srivastava’s family members have been traced to Ghazipur and Patparganj.

His cousin Gaurav told the police that Srivastava went to the institute on Sunday as he had to take a test. After the test, he and a friend left for his rented accommodation in Munirka.

“Both walked to the nearest bus stop and then left for their homes,” another officer quoted Gaurav.

On Monday morning, Gaurav told the police, the cab of the company where Srivastava works arrived to pick him up for work. The cab driver called on his number but the call was received by someone else who informed him that a man was lying in the middle of the road and that he wasn’t breathing. Thereafter, his phone was switched off.

“When his mother was given the phone, Srivastava came on the line and said that he had been beaten up brutally and that he was somewhere near a temple. He told his mother that she needed to save him or else they would kill him. The phone has been switched off after that," added the officer.
