The Supreme Court will hear a petition contending the resignation submitted by various members of legislative assembly (MLAs) of Andhra Pradesh deemed to have been accepted by its Speaker.

The petition was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, which on Wednesday said it would hear the petition by former Member of Parliament, M. Narayana Reddy, on February 1.
Reddy has claimed that the petition has been filed on behalf of the MLAs who resigned on the Telangana issue.
Senior advocate Subodh Markandeya, who mentioned the PIL on behalf of Reddy, claimed that MLAs belonging to Telangana, irrespective of their political affiliations, submitted their resignations to the Speaker. However, the Speaker has neither acted nor sent them to the assembly secretariat.
The PIL read: “The arbitrary stoic silence of the respondent (Speaker) has resulted in gross violation of Article 14, 19(1) (a) and 190 of the constitution.”
