Tender process for parking sites to begin today

A new parking policy is being introduced as part of the new tendering process, making it mandatory for parking contractors to issue slips with hand-held devices apart from installing CCTV cameras for better monitoring.

The officials said all the parking sites under the new regime are likely to become operational by February.

"In the absence of fresh contr-acts, commuters were being harassed by organised gangs. Many instances of encroachment and over-charging were also reported," said a senior official.

According to officials, notices inviting tenders for all the parking lots were issued in the first week of January. The bid documents will be opened on Tuesday after which the tenders will be scrutinised. Apart from streamlining the functioning of the parking lots, officials said, the renewal of auction will generate about R15 crore revenue for the civic body.
