Drawing a parallel between global warming and terrorism — world’s two biggest challenges— Nobel Laureate R.K. Pachauri on Wednesday said both had an ethical dimension.

Delivering the 14th Justice Sunanda Bhandare Foundation Memorial Lecture, Pachauri said: “I don’t want to draw a link, but terrorism is the result of the exploitation of the poorest of the poor. Without exploitation, such indoctrination cannot happen.”
Speaking on Ethics and the Challenge of Climate Change, Pachauri said warnings from scientists about a century ago were ignored, with the result that “climate change is a reality now”.
“Problems have been caused by one set of countries and the consequences have to be faced by a different set of countries. Those bound to take moral responsibility have not,” he said.
The lecture is an annual event organised in memory of the late Justice Sunanda Bhandare of the Delhi High Court.
