Third suspect in cop death?

Three days after inspector Bardish Dutt, their 'first point of contact' with the elite special cell of the Delhi Police, was found dead next to the corpse of his live-in partner, sources in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) claimed there was more to the couple's mysterious deaths than met the eye.

Sources in the IB claimed an informal investigation has been launched into the possibility of the involvement of a 'third party' - most plausibly an interstate gangster or the member of a pan-NCR crime syndicate - in what could arguably be 'two homicides'.

"Inspector Dutt had been associated with the bureau ever since his induction in the special cell," said an IB official.

"The information he had helped us gather, and was still assisting us with, and the number and kind of people his expertise has helped us track was immense. This might have possibly been a successful effort at getting rid of him just because he was very good at his job."

The 45-year-old technical whiz had, according to sources in the IB, most recently been behind successful interception of at least six telephone conversations between alleged Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) operative Liyaqat Ali Shah, hiding somewhere inside PoK, and his Srinagar-based wife between December 2012 and February this year.

Asked if the police was looking into the angle of the involvement of a third person or party, what could turn the case into a double murder, Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal told HT, "It does not seem like it, but I will not comment on this."
