The drive will include catching drink drivers, suspending their driving licenses and sending them to jail.

The police have also urged the court to put all defaulters behind bars, at least for a day, sources said.

“We will conduct an intensive drive for five days in several parts of the national capital. In some places, the drive will continue till late night,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

The police have formed several night patrolling teams that will be equipped with alcometers. While some teams will be mobile, some will be stationed near identified bars and pubs.

Sources said generally such drives were conducted once or twice a week, besides a majority were conducted between 8pm and 11pm.

“For the first time, we will conduct the drive for five days. Our teams will patrol roads from evening till midnight,” said a police officer. Last year, a similar drive was conducted for two days.

These are located in Connaught Place, Saket, Rajouri Garden, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, Sunder Nagar, Lodhi Road, New Friends Colony, Vasant Vihar and Khan Market among others.

Some of them operate till late night, while some serve liquor round the clock. The police are gathering inputs from different pubs and bars in the city about their respective peak hours, to make deployments accordingly.

Meanwhile, the traffic police will also direct the managements of these joints to make adequate arrangements for chauffeur service and call-a-cab service for drinkers on demand.
