Three cops beaten up in separate incidents

Four days after two Delhi police officers were beaten up by two hooligans following a minor argument in South Extension Part-II market, two more similar incidents have been reported from two different areas of the Capital, Karn Pratap Singh reports.

The first incident was reported from southwest Delhi’s Ranhola area on Saturday. A constable was thrashed, allegedly by three persons travelling in a Maruti WagonR car, for asking the driver to stop flashing the indicator unnecessarily.

The second incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Rohini in which two traffic police personnel were attacked and their uniforms were torn by three persons when they were being issued challans for violating traffic rules.

Five incidents of policemen being attacked has been reported in October.

The victim of the first incident, constable Samandar Singh, posted at Ranhola police station, in his complaint told the police that he was returning home after work in his Maruti Swift car when the incident occurred.

“On the way, Singh spotted a WagonR car speeding with its right indicator on. Singh signalled the driver of the car to switch it off. But instead of listening to Singh’s advice, the car driver and two other persons in the car forced Singh to stop his vehicle. They attacked him with hockey sticks and rods. Hearing his screams, two policemen from the nearby police post came to his help. Sunil Kherwal, one of the attackers, was caught while the others managed to flee,” a police officer said, quoting Singh’s complaint.

They signalled the driver to stop but he jumped the traffic signal and drove towards Rohini Sector-17. They chased the car on their bike and stopped it.

“The car driver was asked to show documents at which the occupants of the car hurled abuses and attacked the cops. They also tore off their uniforms,” said a senior officer, adding the assailants were drunk.
