Three held with fake currency

Three people allegedly belonging to an inter-state gang involved in the supply of fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) were arrested by the crime branch. Notes valued at Rs. 4 lakh were recovered from them, police said.

Ravindra Yadav, additional CP (crime) said the arrested trio had been identified as Arjun Sharma, 33, Parma Shah, 31 and Satinder Singh, 30.“The seized currency notes were in the denominations of 1000 and 500. The counterfeit money trail was traced to Bettiah in west Champaran, Bihar. These are being smuggled into the country through the porous Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bangladesh border,” additional CP Yadav said.

On March 11, police claimed, they had received specific information that two people hailing from Bettiah in Bihar, who often come to Delhi to supply fake notes, would be coming near the New Delhi railway station.

The two, later identified as Sharma and Shah, were arrested from the Ajmeri gate side of the railway station at 12:30 pm. A search, police claimed, led to the recovery of Rs. 2 lakh of fake notes in the denominations of Rs. 1000 from Sharma and R 1.5 lakh, in the denomination of Rs. 500, from Shah.

The gang’s main supplier, identified as one Nagina from west Champaran in Bihar, is absconding.
