Three more cases of swine flu confirmed

With three more cases of swine flu— influenza A (H1N1) virus— confirmed on Sunday, the number of affected people across India has touched 59.

Out of the three confirmed cases, one is from Delhi and the other two from Chennai.

In Delhi, the confirmed case is that of a 15-year-old boy, who had travelled from New York to Delhi on June 17.

On June 19, the boy himself landed up at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital after developing flu-like symptoms.

Out of the 22 confirmed patients in the Capital so far, nine have been discharged.

Fourteen suspected patients are awaiting reports of their samples.

In Chennai, the two confirmed cases are of a 29-year-old man and his 25-year-old wife. Both had travelled from North Carolina to Delhi on June 13.

They were quarantined in a government health facility after reporting with flu-like symptoms on June 19.

Of the 421 suspected cases, 138 were identified through health screening at international airports, 20 identified through contact tracing and the rest self-reported at government identified facilities.

There have been six human-to-human transmissions so far, of which one is from Hyderabad and five from Delhi.
