With the sun glaring since early morning, the mercury shot up five degrees more than its normal mark to reach 40.6 degrees Celsius.

The minimum, too, was three degrees more, at 30.8 degrees Celsius.

The Met office has said some chances of rain — although not much — had emerged. “There could partly cloudy sky and thundershowers in the night in Thursday” said the forecaster.

The temperatures have risen almost 10 degrees in the past two weeks, making Delhiites pray for monsoon rains.
