The Tibetans have been seeking autonomy within the framework of the Chinese constitution for years now.

The protest started on Tuesday with a 24-hour fast at Jantar Mantar by members of the Tibetan parliament in exile.

“The increase in number of self immolation cases by the youth to protest against political repression, cultural assimilation, economic marginalisation and environmental destruction have become a matter of grave concern for us. We’ll protest in the capital for the next four days to highlight our issues,” said Penpa Tsering, speaker of Tibetan parliament in exile located in Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh.

“Many Indian MPs have come forward to voice our concerns and have formed an all party Indian Parliamentary forum, whose convener is senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha. We are meeting foreign ambassadors to raise the issue at the international forum.”
