The police have recovered nearly 150 confirmed tickets issued in various names, age groups and destinations. The agency booked the tickets months ago.

Sources said the gang members had booked all the tickets from one counter at the New Delhi Railway Station.

Railway authorities have been asked to provide the manual forms that were filled to book these tickets.

“This cannot be done without the help of insiders. The arrested trio have revealed a few names and we will interrogate them to establish their role in the racket,” said a senior crime branch officer, requesting anonymity.

Vijay Kumar, Vijay Majumdar and Deenu Kumar were arrested by the crime branch on Monday. During interrogation, Kumar revealed that he

was working as tout for Majumdar and Kumar — both travel agents.

“With the help of railway employees, the agents

purchased bulk tickets in advance to cover all busy railway routes in India. Later, they sold these tickets to passengers by charging three to four times the original price,” the officer added.

The gang told the passengers to use the names printed on the tickets while travelling.

“It was a well organised racket. Almost all the tickets recovered from the gang belonged to the sleeper class, as ID proofs are not required in this category,” he said.
