After a notification from the lieutenant-governor, increased bus fares have become effective in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and blueline buses.

The Delhi cabinet had approved a fare hike of 70 per cent in DTC and blueline buses on October 26. The new fare structure was to come into effect from November 1.

However, delay in giving a final shape to the fare chart delayed the implementation of the new fare structure.

“We had earlier announced the broad fare structure. But a detailed fare chart was to be prepared detailing new fare between the stoppages on all routes,” a senior transport department official said.

“Printing of tickets also took time,” he added.

According to the new fare structure, bus passengers will now have to pay Rs 5 to travel for the first 3 km, Rs 10 to travel between 3 and 10 km and Rs 15 for a journey over 10 km.
