A Tihar male undertrial has alleged before a city court that two co-inmates allegedly sexually abused him in a jail barrack last month after he refused to give in to extortion demands.

The undertrial, who is lodged in sub-jail number five, submitted before the court that he was beaten up, undressed and sexually abused by the two inmates inside a jail barrack.

The inmate said he was targeted after he had refused to pay an extortion sum allegedly demanded by a jail official and another inmate, after which the duo had threatened him.

Taking cognisance of his complaint, the court directed the inmate to undergo medical tests, which confirmed sexual abuse.

The Tilak Nagar police lodged a case of sodomy on Thursday and are probing the complaint on the court's direction.

Tihar official Sunil Gupta said, "We will do our own internal probe to determine if the inmate was threatened for extortion and sexually abused." Gupta, however, said the inmate's allegation that a jail official had tried to extort from him was "false."
