Nine days after registering a case of murder and investigating it from different possible angles, Delhi police now has a reason to believe that Paras Bhasin, the 23-year-old tattoo artist, was not murdered.
The case, which remained a mystery for 10 days, took an interesting turn on Monday after a train driver admitted hitting a man on the railway tracks near Pandav Nagar flyover on the same date and at the same place where Bhasin’s dismembered body was found on September 1. Family members of Bhasin, however, are still sticking to their allegations that Bhasin was murdered by his in-laws.
According to a senior police officer, the statement of the driver was recorded on Friday and he told police that the victim who was hit by his train was alone on the tracks at the time of incident.
Investigators now have to ascertain whether Bhasin had deliberately jumped in front of the train or was it an accidental death.
“We registered the statement of three train drivers whose trains passed the Pandav Nagar stretch between 4 and 5 pm. While two of them claimed that nobody was hit from their train on the particular spot, one driver admitted that a man was hit by the engine of his train below the Pandav Nagar flyover. The timing of the accident stated by the driver matches the timing of Bhasin’s death,” said the senior officer.

{{/usCountry}}The train driver, the officer said, could not see the face of the man who was run over by the engine of the train. “He is not able to recall the face of the victim as the train was at high speed. We are trying to verify his statement,” added the officer.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (crime and railways), said, “We are waiting for the forensic report and viscera reports before coming to any conclusion.”
