TRANSLATION
I have done German till level M3. I am also doing my advanced diploma in German. I want to know which institutes offer translation courses in German and also provide good placements. How much can a translator expect to earn? -Jyoti Mehta

A new terminology for courses has been introduced recently. The M3 level is now known as the C1 level.
Max Mueller Bhavan does offer courses in German translation but not on a regular basis. Jawaharlal Nehru University offers a course in translation.
No institute offers placement facility. As for how much a translator can expect to earn depends on the document. You can earn upto Rs 4 per word for German document that needs to be translated into English and Rs 5 per word for an English document to be translated into German. For a technical document, you can earn even more.
I am a B Tech in Textile Technology from the University of Calcutta. I have 1.5 years of experience in yarn production (Grasim). After that I switched over to the garment export industry and worked there for another five years (across 2 companies) in fabric sourcing (supply chain, the last two years of my experience was in the capacity of manager). And now I have got admission in a one-year MBA programme. What are my chances in the KPO industry in the light of my previous experience and qualification ?

The answer is yes. Any person with such a wide level of experience can jump into the BPO/KPO space. What he/she will need is an orientation towards what this sector means. Accordingly they can see where they can apply themselves better. Looking at the past experience being mostly in garment industry, I don’t think getting into hardcore technology development will work out. What he/she can focus is more on transactional processing opportunities which can be a good match with his/her experience as well as the MBA.
