The Delhi government has asked the transport department to work out a plan to regulate e-rickshaws, which have mushroomed in the city in the past few months.

The government has also asked the department to carry out a survey to identify the number of cycle rickshaws and e-rickshaws in the Capital. The department will submit a report to the government within a week.
In two separate meetings, first chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit and second by transport minister Ramakant Goswami, various departments concerned including transport, environment, the three MCDs, NDMC and traffic police mulled over the necessity to formulate a feasible regulatory framework for e-rickshaws keeping in view the safety concern.
“The fast-increasing number of e-rickshaws may become a traffic hazard and result in accidents on the roads. There is a need to act fast to ensure safety of passengers. We need to examine the technical stability of these rickshaws,” an official said.
