Unable to use sets or any prop items, the creative team of the closing ceremony bought national flags and distributed among the spectators.

Poles anchoring the national flags were banned because of security concerns, so the creative team found a way around it. The team bough 1,000 such flags and handed them over to the spectators to bring in the nationalist fervour during the closing ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Thursday night.
“National flags were the only missing link in the entire closing ceremony, so we decided to buy them and distribute them among the spectators. The show looked spectacular with the tri-colour laser show and the pyroworks,” said Bharat Bala, creative director of the closing ceremony.
The Delhi Police had said the poles could be used to hit anyone so they did not allow the public to bring it inside the stadium. “The show was a success only because the national flags fluttered among the audience,” said Bala.
