The trifurcation of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has put locks on the swimming pools of the erstwhile civic agency, leaving the students of its schools deprived of their favourite summer sport.

The necessary repairing of the pools and hiring of swimming coaches and life guards couldn’t be done due to the trifurcation and the recently held elections. As a result, the three newly formed corporations failed to make their swimming pools operational for schoolchildren.
“We don’t have enough resources to open our pools. The repair work hasn’t been done. Water filters and cleaning plants are not working,” said a senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) officer.
Even the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) — which has all its pools in a working condition — can’t open them for public as there are no life guards and swimming coaches.
“We want to open our pools but don’t have the manpower. Even if we advertise for hiring life guards and swimming coaches by the end of this month, it would still take a couple of months to make the pools operational,” said a SDMC official.
The seven swimming pools come under the community service departments of the corporations.
