A Delhi Transport Department constable was mowed down by a truck in north Delhi’s Azadpur early on Saturday morning, police said.

Hemraj, the 40-year-old victim, was returning home after winding up the day’s work at the area RTO check post when the truck, moving on the wrong side of the carriageway, ran him over near the Azadpur Metro station around 3.45am, the police added.
Hemraj, a resident of adjacent Sadar Bazaar, was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“The victim was crossing the road when the errant vehicle —moving on the wrong side of the road — ran him over. He died on the spot,” Romil Baaniya, additional DCP (northwest), said.
“The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Rafiq Malik, is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama. He was arrested and booked for causing death by rash and negligent driving,” said a senior officer.
Though a medical test showed Malik was not drunk, investigations revealed another case of rash and negligent driving registered against him in Haryana.
