At Palam, the mercury went higher still and touched 46.3 degrees Celsius. That’s not all. Tomorrow’s likely to be worse with the Met Department predicting that the temperature on Wednesday is likely to touch 46 degree Celsius.

“The heat wave is persisting due to dry winds and lack of rain. There have been no thunder showers in the past week,” said the weatherman.

Tuesday’s maximum temperature was 1.2 degrees higher than yesterday’s maximum of 43.4 degrees while the minimum was recorded at 29.6 degrees, down from yesterday’s 30.2 degrees.

“With temperatures staying over 43 degrees for most of last week, getting out of the house has become a task,” said Riddhima Sharma, 34, a housewife, who lives in Civil Lines.

The highest temperature of the season—45.4 degree Celsius—was recorded on May 17. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is, however, expecting some respite over the weekend.

“The Western Disturbances are expected to bring some respite in the form of rain,” said B.P. Yadav, director, Weather Forecast, IMD.
