Two foreigners held with heroin

An Afghan national and a man from Nigeria were arrested with more than 1.6 kg of fine quality heroin, estimated to be worth around R3 crore in the international market, by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Wednesday.

“The arrested have been identified as Mohd Sarwar (32), hailing from Kandahar in Afghanistan, and Emeka Paul (27) from Nigeria. They were apprehended from near the Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka,” said Arun Kampani, DCP (Special Cell).

According to the police, Sarwar was carrying a heroin packet wrapped on his right leg fastened below the knee —resembling a plaster.

“Sarwar came to India three months ago, on the pretext of his wife’s treatment, but is actually a member of an International drug rink run by a man identified as Haji Zia— also based in Kandhar,” said Kampani.

The police said Sarwar and his fellow smugglers used to carrying the contraband inside their stomach through capsules which — after clearing security checks at airports — are extricated the destination is reached.
