Surender Kumar Jindal,40, and Bansi Dhar Pathak, 34, who hail from Rohtak and Roorkee respectively, had been issuing telephonic threats to one Vinay Kansal, who operates an electrical switch business in Rani Bagh, said P. Karunakaran, DCP (northwest).

"In the name of one 'Uday Shetty of the underworld', the caller had directed Kansal to deliver Rs. 25 lakh to him at an address in adjacent Noida failing which either he or someone from his family would be targeted," said DCP Karunakaran.

Teams were deployed in the area and the duo was arrested.

During questioning, police said, Jindal revealed that he was under heavy debt because of his wife's ailment. He came in touch with Pathak, one of his neighbours and hatched the plot.
