Additional Sessions judge Kaveri Baweja had on October 7 reserved the verdict after concluding hearing final arguments from both the sides in the case.

Uttar Pradesh resident Shiv Kumar Yadav is accused of kidnapping and raping a female passenger on her way home back from a dinner with friends at South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area. The verdict is likely in the first half of the court day.

The order comes barely a month after Supreme Court dismissed Yadav’s plea to recall 13 witnesses in his trial including the victim. The Delhi high court had allowed this plea in February this year.

HT had earlier reported that the young woman was being threatened as the trial came to an end. The-25-year-old executive had also identified the accused during her deposition before court.

Yadav had been insisting on his innocence since his arrest on December 7 from Mathura. While his lawyer DK Misra told court that the cops had conducted a hurried and shoddy probe under pressure from government, the public prosecutor Atul Srivastava submitted that DNA evidence and GPS records from the taxi used that night confirm the survivor’s story.

The young woman had also sued Uber in a San Francisco courtroom is the United States. She had demanded unquantified damages to compensate her for trauma. However, later, she withdrew this civil suit.
