The first casualty in the new system are going to be the cut-offs as college principals say the first two cut-off lists will not be very different from last year’s.

Unsure of admissions under the new system, the principal of a prominent girls’ college said, on the condition of anonymity, that the first two cut-off lists will be similar to last year’s to ensure that the college does not end up over-admitting students.

The university is set to make a systemic change in its immensely popular undergraduate programmes, making the honours degree four years long while giving exit options at the end of second and third years.

According to a principal of a prominent college in the North Campus, the lack of communication from the university authorities has made their life difficult ahead of the admission season that starts in May.

Since the programme courses have been done away with, there is no clarity on admission. The authorities have said that the admission will be on the basis of the main subject the student chooses. It is up to the student to decide if he/she wants to complete the honours degree or exit after the second or third year.

Fixing the cut-off in this scenario will be very difficult as the admission will not only cater to students who want to complete an honours degree but also for those who want to pursue the two-year associate baccalaureate or the three-year baccalaureate degree, the principal said.

According to SK Garg, principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, who is also a part of the committee on admissions and examinations, the admissions are going to be a difficult affair this year.

The newness of the new system will be the main problem, Garg said. No one knows how to work under the new system as it is so different from what we had earlier.
