Kale will be living that moment of instant karma on Saturday, when he plays with Melange in the city. Melange is a project put together by Ustad Shujaat Hussain Khan and has six other musicians of diverse genres from different parts of the world.

Apart from Kale and Khan, it brings together such seasoned musicians as bassist Karl Peters and tabla player Yogesh Samsi from India and unconventional Iranian vocalist Katayoun Goudarzi, apart from the Americans — saxophonist Tim Ries and jazz pianist Kevin Hays.

The show promises offbeat vocals by Goudarsi, who has a unique style of poetic recitals.

Another big draw is saxophonist Ries, the ‘favourite Jazz man’ of the rock band, the Rolling Stones. Pianist Hayes, too, has worked with such famed jazz artists as saxophonist Sonny Rollins and guitarist Pat Metheny.

Khan says the sound of Melange is contemporary- what the world is today.

“Today its possible for a sitar player, a jazz pianist, a guitarist and a drummer to come together and sound melodious and meaningful. All the solos are very well defined. It isn’t just a bunch of sounds jumping at you from the stage.”
