In 2005, when Delhi was rocked by bomb blasts on Diwali eve, the terrorists had used RDX.

“We have collected samples from all the blast sites. Ammonium nitrate was used in all the blasts,” said a senior police officer. Police said the explosives used here were similar to those used in the Ahmedabad and Jaipur blasts.

The ammonium nitrate had been placed in convex wooden boxes, sources said.

“The chemical weighing between 1kg and 1.5kg in each bomb was packed with shrapnel to cause maximum damage. Steel ball bearings were used in all the explosives,” said a senior police officer.

The defused bombs were found attached to two detonators each, in case one failed to trigger the explosion. An analogue clock of ‘Prince’ make was the triggering device for the bombs.

Delhi Police denied they had received any inputs from the Intelligence Bureau warning of impending blasts in the capital.
