UP cops still say Talwar is guilty

Three months after the CBI gave a clean chit to Dr Rajesh Talwar in the double murder case, Uttar Pradesh police has reiterated its earlier stand of his involvement in the crime, reports Bhadra Sinha.

Three months after the CBI gave a clean chit to Dr Rajesh Talwar in the double murder of his teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, Uttar Pradesh police has reiterated its earlier stand of the dentist’s alleged involvement in the crime.

In its affidavit before the Supreme Court, UP police claimed they had enough evidence against Dr Talwar and his arrest took place only after the investigators were “prima facie satisfied” about his involvement.

The UP police’s assertion is likely to affect the ongoing CBI probe into the murder. Dr Talwar was released after the arrest of his office boy, Krishna and the latter’s friends, Vijay Mandal and Raj Kumar. Following these arrests UP police was accused of framing Dr Talwar.

Within 90 days of the three arrests, the CBI was left red-faced after a court set free Krishna, Mandal and Kumar. The agency had failed to file a final investigative report within the stipulated time period of 90 days.

UP police has denied the allegations of defaming Dr Talwar and his family. They claimed to have carried out the probe in accordance with law. “There is sufficient evidence collected by the investigating officer of the case which prima facie proves the involvement of Dr Rajesh Talwar in the double murder,” it read.
