“Notification to this effect has also been issued in the first week of June. The anti-human-trafficking police stations will come up at 12 districts in the state,” said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal.

Previously, as part of curbing human-trafficking, a special unit was assigned to 12 districts which would now be converted into a full-fledged police stations. They would be provided with additional resources in terms of personnel and vehicles.

Lal said that such police stations would come up at 12 districts, including Meerut, Allahabad, Basti, Lucknow, Bareilly, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi and Moradabad.

In Ghaziabad, the police station will commence operation from Monday, near the premises of women’s police station.

“The matter has already raked up issues related to human-trafficking, especially in cases of minors and women. These police stations would take care of all such cases and work in close coordination with the district labour department, social-welfare department and various NGOs to ensure tracking of such cases and the rehabilitation of the victims,” Lal added.

With the start of anti-human-trafficking police station, Ghaziabad would now have 24 police stations in its jurisdiction. The district officials have already sent another proposal for adding seven more police stations in the city areas considering a rapid increase in population during past two decades.
