Exprssing serious concern over the recent developments in Tibet, the BJP top leadership on Wednesday accused the UPA government of adopting a policy of "blatant appeasement" towards China that was harmful to the country’s prestige.

“It is indeed shameful to note that the Government of India, instead of expressing concern over the use of force by the Chinese Government, is adopting a policy of blatant appeasement towards China with scant regard to the country’s national honour and foreign policy independence,” said BJP senior leaders LK Advani, Rajnath Singh and Jaswant Singh in a joint statement.
This is one of the rare occasions when three of the topmost leaders of the party have jointly voiced their concern on an issue.
Taking note of reports that the government had cancelled a proposed call by the vice president on the Tibetan spiritual head Dalai Lama on his expected visit to Delhi, BJP leaders condemned the action and demanded an explanation for this “policy of irrationality”.
“Why is the government adopting such a nationally humiliating and pusillanimous policy at the cost of neglecting the country’s prestige?” they asked pointing out to the “anguish and suffering" of the Tibetan people.
