More than 50 street vendors from Sarojini Nagar market have claimed that New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) officials have impounded their goods despite a Delhi High Court stay order against such removal.
The vendors claim they showed stay order papers to NDMC officials, when the official raid started on Tuesday evening, but the officials did not heed their pleas.
With goods impounded from the vendors, NDMC officials and police personnel reached Sarojini Nagar police station, with vendors trailing them.
The vendors first organised an impromptu protest. After discussion with the station house officer, the vendors, along with activists of the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), lodged complaints with the police.
Vinay Kumar, Devi Charan and Rohit Kumar gave an account of the events in their complaint letter and drew attention to the fact that they had court documents.
"We request you to lodge a case in connection with the contempt of court order and government order," they requested the police.
The Delhi High Court had, on June 18, restrained the NDMC from removing street vendors from where they have been peddling their wares, till further orders. Anuradha Singh of NASVI called it as a case of contempt of court and alleged, "The NDMC and police officials asked money from vendors to let them continue (selling their goods)."

{{/usCountry}}However, NDMC officials denied the charges and said simultaneous raids were conducted at Janpath, Sarojini Nagar and Palika Bazar to remove encroachments.
"If they are talking about tehbazari and court stay, let them follow rules. Tehbazari is allowed only from sunrise to sunset. Our team went there after sunset," said a senior NDMC official.
