The flight was cancelled on Saturday, overbooked, passengers said, on Sunday and cancelled again on Monday.

Virgin Atlantic operates a daily flight from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport (VS 301) at 1.15pm.

On Monday, after the aircraft developed a technical snag, the passengers were made to sit inside the aircraft for five hours. This was while it stood on the taxiway, and before it returned to the parking bay.

“On Saturday, the flight was cancelled. Then it was so overbooked on Sunday, that I couldn’t find a seat and was sent back,” said a passenger, who did not want to be named.

“On Monday, first the airline officials said that there was a problem in the business class toilet, which was why the flight was delayed by half an hour,” he said.

“We were not provided with any food in the aircraft for four hours,” he said.

“More than the delay, it was the odd behaviour of the crew that was irritating. They were utterly confused and there was chaos,” the passenger added.

Sources at the airport said that on Saturday, the flight was cancelled because the incoming flight from Heathrow was delayed by many hours.

“Virgin Atlantic confirms that the VS 301 flying from Delhi to London Heathrow on Monday is delayed due to a technical problem. The safety and welfare of our crew and passengers is Virgin Atlantic’s top priority,” said an airline spokesperson.

“Our airport team is looking after the passengers and assisting with their immediate requirements,” he said.
