Though fog continued till late on Saturday afternoon, the day temperature was 8.4 degrees Celsius, up from Friday’s 6.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was 15 degrees Celsius, which was seven degrees Celsius less than normal, while the minimum was 1 degree Celsius.

Indian Meteorological Department officials are predicting dense fog in the coming days. “Such fog is a normal phenomenon for this time of the year and is a result of increased humidity. Dense fog disseminates when there is wind. However, absence of strong winds on Saturday ensured fog remained till late in the afternoon,” said a Met official.

IMD Director General Ajit Tyagi said, “This is not a localised fog but widespread over entire Indo-Gangetic plain. This kind of fog takes long to dissipate.”
